Questions Homeowners Ask
Who Is TankVault For?
Homeowners in Virginia and North Carolina with an alternative (AOSS) or conventional septic system.
Is it free? When can I sign up?
The homeowner app is free: due dates, reminders, and your septic papers stored on your phone, plus free county health department records where your county offers them. Premium is optional. Reserve your free account with your county and email, and we’ll email you the moment TankVault opens in your county. If your septic company already uses TankVault, they can invite you now.
Is TankVault in my state?
TankVault covers Virginia and North Carolina today. Reserve your free account and tell us your county, and we’ll email you if TankVault reaches you.
Do I need a service company already?
No. Once you’re in, you can add your home on your own and use the TankVault directory to see Licensed Operators on TankVault in your county.
Does it work for conventional systems?
Yes. TankVault is for both alternative (AOSS) and conventional septic systems. For a conventional system (tank and drainfield) it keeps the pump-out records and pump-out due dates, and sends reminders where the county requires a pump-out (Loudoun, Fairfax and Prince William counties require a pump-out every 5 years). Alternative systems also get operator inspection, lab sampling and state report due dates. In Virginia, conventional systems don’t need a yearly operator visit or lab sample, so there’s nothing extra to track.
What kind of septic system do I have?
If your system has a pump, an alarm, a treatment unit or a control panel, it’s probably an alternative (AOSS) system. Your permit or your operator can confirm, and TankVault adjusts to your type.
Who sees my information?
